Hanoi (VNA) – A mobile phone application for the Vietnam Shrimp Forummade debut on March 25.
The forum is an initiative of the International CollaboratingCentre for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS) within theframework of implementation of the Sustainable and Equitable Shrimp Productionand Value Chain Development in Vietnam (SusV) project and the GenderTransformative and Responsible Agribusiness Investments in South East Asia(Graisea) project funded by the European Union, the Swedish Embassy in Vietnamand OXFAM.
Since 2016, the forum has become an annual event jointlyorganised by the Directorate of Fisheries, ICAFIS, OXFAM and WWF Vietnam to share,discuss and offer solutions in sustainable development of the Vietnamese shrimpindustry with the focus on science and technology, policies, farming models,markets, organic agriculture and pressing issues of this industry.
In addition to the offline forum, online forums are set upon Facebook and Zalo, offering information about daily shrimp prices, markets, farmingtechniques and new policies. However, it is difficult to look up old data on theseplatforms and the number of member is also limited.

Therefore, the mobile phone application of the VietnamShrimp Forum was born, with these above-mentioned disadvantages addressed.
Shrimp is one among four key exports of Vietnam’s fisheriessector, accounting for 45 percent of total export turnover of aquatic products.Vietnamese shrimp is available in over 160 countries and territories around theworld. The shrimp industry provides jobs and direct income for around 1.35 million labourers. /.
Shrimp export value exceeded 3.8 billion USD in 2021, up 3 percent from 2020 and making up around 45 percent of Vietnam’s earnings from the export of fishery products, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
About 200,000 hectares of shrimp-rice farms will be developed in 2022 with total output of 120,000 tonnes, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD)’s Directorate of Fisheries.
There remains large room for Vietnam’s shrimp industry to strive for greater export growth in the next few years, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Overseas shipments of shrimp products are set to earn more than 4 billion USD in 2022, up 2.56 percent on-year, as heard a conference held on March 11.
