- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh offered incense to heroes and martyrs at the A1 cemetery in Dien Bien Phu city, the northern province of Dien Bien on May 6, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7).

Built in 1958 and subject to several repairs and upgrades, the cemetery is about 100m south of the historical site of Hill A1. It is the final resting place for 644 soldiers who fought heroically and sacrificed their lives during the historic Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954. Read full story

- Incumbent and former Party and State leaders paid respect and laid wreaths in commemoration of martyrs at the A1 National Martyrs Cemetery in the northwestern mountainous province of Dien Bien on May 6 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-2024).

Due to work commitments, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is unable to attend the ceremony marking the 70th commemoration, thus sending a wreath to pay tribute to the fallen heroes. Read full story

- The Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) have sent congratulatory messages to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7).

In its message, the LPRP Central Committee wrote that the victory at Dien Bien Phu and successes on various fronts during the 1953-1954 period created favourable conditions and advantages at the negotiation table, leading to the signing of the Geneva Accords on restoring peace in the three Indochinese countries: Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, on the spirit of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. - Vietnam's Dien Bien Phu Victory over the French colonialists had a decisive influence on other nations, of which Algeria was an example, Mourad Lamoudi, member of the Central Committee of the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) party has told Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondents in Algeria.

Lamoudi, who is in charge of the FLN’s external relations affairs, said that the Dien Bien Phu Victory is a symbol of Vietnam which carries international historical stature. What the Vietnamese people did and the victories they achieved were truly extraordinary. Read full story

- Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 6 for French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu, who is in Vietnam to attend a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet will lead a Vietnamese delegation to a dialogue on Vietnam's national report on human rights protection and promotion under the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)’s fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism on May 7.

- Unidad y Luch, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE), has recently published an article praising the Vietnamese army and people's Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7, 1954, which "resounded across the five continents and shook the globe", referring to it as Vietnam's World War II battle of Stalingrad.

The article said in the chronicles of revolutionary victories that can be classified as global heritage, Dien Bien Phu was one of the decisive battles that changed the course of the struggle for colonial peoples in Indochina seeking liberation from the French rule. Read full story
