Myanmar: Aung San Suu Kyi urges armed groups to sign ceasefire deal

Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has urged non-signatoryarmed groups to join the government peace process by signing the nationwideceasefire agreement (NCA).
As leader of the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre,Aung San Suu Kyi called on the groups to work with the civil society to findways to strengthen the monitoring mechanism, thus ensuring non-violation of theceasefire agreement and equal participation in the 21st Century PanglongConference in February 2017.
The call was made after a number of clashes in the northernstate of Shan, notably the armed conflict on security posts in Muse and Kutkaitowns on November 20 by an alliance of three armed groups- the KachinIndependence Army, the Taang National Liberation Army, and the Myanmar NationalDemocratic Alliance Army. All the three groups have not signed the NCA.

A total of 25 attackers were killed in clashes as the Myanmar’s troops conducted clearance operation in the southern state of Rakhine, reported Myawaddy, the country’s militant media.
