Myanmar and Bangladesh have accepted China’s mediatory role and agreed to implement a three-phase solution proposed by its Foreign Minister Wang Yi to resolve the Rohingya refugee crisis.

Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar and Bangladesh haveaccepted China’s mediatory role and agreed to implement a three-phase solutionproposed by its Foreign Minister Wang Yi to resolve the Rohingya refugeecrisis.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said Bangladesh and Myanmarheld bilateral negotiations on the issue.

Addressing a joint press conference with Myanmar’s State Counsellor andForeign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi at Nay Pyi Taw on November 19, Wang said thefirst phase is aimed to achieve a ceasefire so that local residents can nolonger be displaced.

Second, the international community should encourage Myanmar andBangladesh to keep communication in a bid to find a feasible solution to theissue while the third phase is to find a long-term solution.-VNA
