Hanoi (VNA)-Myanmar’s Governm▨ent on November 11 pledged to cooperate with all parties to ensuඣre peace and stability after the elections.
The commitment was made after the National League for Democracy (NLD) leader Aung San Suu Kyi called for "national reconciliation" talks with President U Thein Sein, parliamentary speaker U Shwe Mann and Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing.
A statement of the presidential office said the Government respect the decision of the people and will work for a peaceful transfer of power, adding that talks as proposed by the NLD head will be held after the election authorities completes the vote counting.
The same day, President Thein Sein sent his congratulatory messages to the NLD and thanked the party for its cooperation for a peaceful election.
Parliamentary speaker U Shwe Mann expressed his willingness to work with the NLD for a stable, peaceful and prosperous Myanmar.
The army chief also pledged that the armed forces will coordinate with the new government and work for the country’s stability, peace and development.
By the nightfall of November 11, the Union Election Commission announced 573 parliament seat winners, including 216 to the House of Representatives, 83 to the House of Nationalities and 274 regional or state parliament. The NLD won 490 seats across all elected bodies, while the Union Solidarity and Development Party claimed 47 seats.-VNA
