The Myanmar Government and ethnic armed groups on April 8 agreed on the first draft of a nationwide ceasefire agreement.

The draft was made at a four-day meeting that concluded on April 8between the Government’s Central Peace Making Work Committee and theethnic armed groups’ National Ceasefire Coordination Team (NCCT).

At the meeting, both sides agreed to the titles of the seven-chapterdraft and discussed the detailed agenda of the next talks set for thefirst week of May.

The draft comprises of aimsand objectives, issues related to a ceasefire, ways and means toconsolidate it, a guarantee for entering into political talks and tasksto be continued for implementation.

If thesigning of the draft is successful during the next talks, Myanmar willend its six decades of internal conflicts and a political dialogue wouldtake its place to strive for peace in the country, local observerssaid.-VNA
