Myanmar parliament approves ceasefire accord

The Myanmar's Union Parliament on December 8 approved the Nationwide Cesaefire Accord (NCA) signed between the government and eight ethnic armed groups on October 15.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Myanmar's Union Parliament on December 8 approved the Nationwide Ce💛saefire Acc🌞ord (NCA) signed between the government and eight ethnic armed groups on October 15.

Under the deal, the two sides agreed on some post-ceasefire steps for adherence by both sides and on the unfinished peace process, which calls for the inclusion of seven other non-ceasefire-signatory groups. The sides were also set to draw up a political framework within 60 days after the formal NCA signing and start a political dialogue within 90 days.
The draft framework for political dialogue, completed by the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC), is expected to be approved by the UPDJC on December 14 in the capital of Nay Pyi Taw. The first round of formal dialogue is scheduled to start before January 14, 2016.
The peace process began in November 2013 when the government's Union Peace Making Work Committee (UPWC) and ethnic armed groups' National Ceasefire Coordination Team (NCCT) met in Myitgyina, capital of Kachin state, for nationwide ceasefire talks. The final round of negotiations between UPWC and NCCT was held in Yangon in August.-VNA
