Myanmar's border trade increases in April-August

Myanmar's border trade reached 1.53 billion USD in the first five months (April-August) of the 2014-2015 fiscal year, up 11 percent compared with 1.38 billion USD in the same period last year.

Of the total, exports took 862 million USD while imports stood at 665million USD, according to the country’s Central StatisticalOrganisation.

By this time, Myanmar just fulfilled 24percent of its export turnover target of 6,168 million USD set earlierfor the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

In 2013, Myanmar's border trade hit 4.68 billion USD, of which exports stood at 2.9billion USD and imports, 1.83 billion USD.

Thecountry plans to open two more border trade points in its border withThailand and one in Chin state bordering India, raising the total numberof its border trade points with neighboring countries to 18.-VNA
