Hanoi (VNA) - Election campaigns for thegeneral election in Myanmar in November this year officially started onSeptember 8.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, events that take place as part ofthe campaigns will be limited to a maximum of 50 people.

On the previous day, Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, who is President of the NationalLeague for Democracy (NLD) party, announced to cancel her firstcampaign on the grounds that the COVID-19 pandemic had deteriorated.

On September 6, Myanmar reported 100 new COVID-19 cases - the highest number ofcases per day since the pandemic outbreak in March.

After weeks with no community infections recorded, in mid-August, theSoutheast Asian country discovered an outbreak in the western state of Rakhine.Since then, the number of COVID-19 patients in the country has doubled to1,610, including 8 deaths as of September 8 morning.
As scheduled, Myanmar will hold its general election onNovember 8./.
