NA Resolution on National Election Council membership approved

According to the resolution, Nguyen Thi Thanh, a member of the Party Central Committee and Vice Chairwoman of the NA, was appointed Standing Vice President of the council and head of its personnel sub-committee.

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly (NA) on June 26 passed a resolution approving the National Election Council President’s proposed list of vice presidents and members of the council, with full support from all 431 deputies present.

According to the resolution, Nguyen Thi Thanh, a member of the Party Central Committee and Vice Chairwoman of the NA, was appointed Standing Vice President of the council and head of its personnel sub-committee.

The three other vice presidents are Nguyen Hoa Binh, Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister; Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; and Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Party Central Committee member and Vice State President. In addition, 14 members were approved to join the council.

The resolution took effect immediately upon its adoption by the legislature.

Based on the developments of disasters, epidemics, national defence and security conditions, and public order and safety, and upon proposals from relevant ministries or provincial-level People’s Committee chairpersons, the Prime Minister may request the NA Standing Committee to declare a state of emergency, according to a draft law.
