Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 44th session in Hanoi on April 14.

In his opening remarks, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the session, held in two stages from April 14-17, and from April 22-April 28 morning, will focus on addressing a large workload, as it aims to prepare for the upcoming 9th session of the 15th legislature.

Accordingly, the NA Standing Committee will consider and approve the proposed plans concerning the rearrangement of commune-level administrative units, Man said, sharing that the Party Central Committee previously agreed to merge local administrative units at the commune level, ensuring that the number of commune-level administrative units nationwide will be reduced by about 60-70% compared to the current number.

The NA Standing Committee will discuss, review, and decide on 42 groups of issues during this session, including 24 related to constitutional and legislative matters; 10 concerning socio-economic issues, the state budget, supervision, and other important matters; eight within its authority; and five others, which will be decided in writing.

Notably, full-time lawmakers will discuss the proposed documents for the amendments and supplements to certain provisions of the 2013 Constitution; the establishment of a committee to draft amendments and supplements to certain provisions of the Constitution. In addition, public opinions on these draft amendments and supplements will be gathered in approximately one month, and five days for compilation.

Amending the Constitution is a particularly important task with a large workload, involving the responsibility of many agencies and organisations, and closely linked to the policy of streamlining and reorganising the political system, the top legislator emphasised.

In addition to the official contents already included in the agenda, there are many other issues in the contingency programme that need to be considered to serve the restructuring of the state apparatus, the reorganisation of administrative units, and the development of a two-tier local administration model, Man said, adding that this also includes fulfilling the requirements of the Central Steering Committee for the Development of Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation, in line with the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW.

൲ Currently, the Government, the Prime Minister, and relevant agencies are making significant efforts to implement solutions across all sectors to proactively respond to the new tariff policy of the US. Therefore, the NA and its Standing Committee are ready to review issues within their jurisdiction to quickly solve difficulties and obstacles for businesses and people in order to promote socio-economic development, including those related to tax exemptions, reductions, or extensions for US companies, he affirmed./.
