Vietnam’s National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu has joinedparliamentarians from 27 other APPF members at the 21 st AnnualMeeting of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum that concluded inVladivostok city, Russia on January 30.
At thethree-day event, Vice Chairman Luu delivered speeches in which hesuggested legislative initiatives and mechanisms for futurecollaboration among APPF legislative bodies. One of his speeches alsofocused on food security in the Asia Pacific region.
The APPF-21 discussed politics and security matters, economics andtrade, and regional cooperation in Asia-Pacific as well as APPF’s futureactivities.
The forum adopted a resolution and elected Mexico as APPF’s President in the 2013-2014 tenure.
On the sidelines of the forum, Luu had a meeting with APPF-21President Valentina Matvienko, who is also Chair wom a n ofRussia’s Federation Council. Both agreed to enhance legislativecooperation and joint actions in international and regional forums, aswell as to strive toward cooperation, peace and stability and expandtrade in the Asia Pacific region.
At a reception heldfor the Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman, Chairman of the Duma ofVladivostok city, Vikor Gochakov, affirmed that Vietnam will always bea strategic partner to Russia .
The cityauthorities and business community believe in their cooperation withVietnam’s cities and provinces, he said, emphasising his wish to learnfrom Vietnam’s experiences in tourism development.
For his part, Luu said he hoped cooperation between the two countriesand localities, especially in chemical and light industries, metals,ship building, electricity, telecommunications, finance and tourism willincrease as there is great potential for cooperation in these fields.
At a meeting with Vladivostok city Vice Mayor RomanKamanov, Luu expressed his hope that the city authorities will studyorientations for cooperation with Vietnam’s localities in small andmedium sized enterprises and education, as well as facilitate theVietnamese community in the city.-VNA
