Namibian President concludes Vietnam visit

Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba left Hanoi on November 21,concluding his four-day State visit to Vietnam at the invitation ofPresident Truong Tan Sang.

During his stay, he held talks with President Truong Tan Sang and met with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

At the meetings, the two sides evaluated the outcomes of cooperationin the past time and reached agreement on measures to further boosttheir multifaceted cooperation.

They held thatdespite seeing positive progress in recent time, multifacetedcooperation between the two countries still does not reflect all theirpotential or meet the expectations of the two sides’ leaders and people.

To take better advantage of cooperationpotential, both sides’ leaders were unanimous in fostering intimatepolitical ties through delegation exchanges at all levels,people-to-people diplomatic activities and the twinned relations betweenmajor Vietnamese and Namibian cities, in order to raise the twopeoples’ mutual understanding.

The continuationof agricultural cooperation projects and calling on the involvement ofthe private sector in the area were agreed at the meetings.

The two sides agreed to direct relevant ministries and agencies toactively collaborate with each other to set up specific plans to furtherboost cooperation in the fields of investment, trade, education andtraining, health, tourism and aviation.

Theyalso shared views on regional and international issues of their commonconcern, expressing their pleasure with Vietnam and Namibia’s electionas members of the United Nations Human Rights Council in the 2014-2016term and affirming the continuation of close collaboration at regionaland international forums and in the framework of South-Southcooperation.

During his trip, PresidentHifikepunye Pohamba witnessed the signing of cooperation agreementsbetween Vietnam and Namibia in the sphere of diplomacy and agriculture,and made fact-finding tours to cultural and economic facilities inHanoi.-VNA
