NA’s ninth session closes after 30 days

The 13th National Assembly closed its month-long ninth session in Hanoi on June 26.
The 13th National Assembly (NA) closed its month-long ninth sessionin Hanoi on June 26, fulfilling its scheduled agenda and deciding onkey country issues.

The closing ceremony was chaired by NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and broadcast live to the nation.

Addressing the event, Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung hailed NA deputies fortheir outspoken revelations of shortcomings and forecasts that couldhinder development, especially as Vietnam’s sea and island sovereigntyis violated by China’s large-scale construction on reef islands inVietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, disrupting the status quo andthreatening peace, stability, maritime and aviation freedom in the EastSea.

He called upon the Government, agencies andthe entire political system to improve national economic competitivenessand restructuring, extend international integration and firmlysafeguard peace and stability.

The whole Party,people and forces must stay united to overcome challenges andsuccessfully achieve the 2015 socio-economic development goals and the2011-2015 plan, keeping the country on track for the next developmentphase, he said.

Reviewing accomplishments duringthe ninth session, Hung said the NA has fine-tuned a number ofregulations for the State and political apparatus in line with the newConstitution and with respect to the law-governed State and publicdemocracy.

The legislature adopted a resolution onlump-sum social insurance payments for workers and another onstrengthening measures to prevent and combat wrongful convictions andcompensation for victims in criminal procedure which won 92.1 percentapprovals.

It also stressed the need to undertakethe construction of Long Thanh international airport in the southernprovince of Dong Nai, considering it a significant project for thecountry and the southern region in particular.

Torealise the NA’s decisions, the Chairman asked the NA StandingCommittee, the NA Council of Ethnic Affairs, NA committees, theGovernment, local authorities, the Supreme People’s Court, the SupremePeople’s Procuracy, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and other relevantunits to exercise their authority to bring newly-adopted laws andresolutions to life.

In his closing speech, he alsorequested lawmakers meet with constituents and discuss theiraspirations following the session.

Earlier, 92.71 percent of deputies passed a resolution on question-and-answer sessions.-VNA
