National construction role models honoured

Twenty six individuals and collectives told stories that earned them an honour of being role models in the nation’s construction and defence cause during a televised programme in Hanoi on July 13.

Themed“Difficulties surmounted to move forward”, the tenth “Vietnam Glory”programme was organised by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour,Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper, the Central Committee for Emulation andAwards and the Vietnam Television. It was broadcast live on VTV1channel.

The audience heard the story told by Le Van Duoc, aninth grade student from Thanh Chuong district, central Nghe Anprovince, who bravely saved five fellow pupils from drowning.

On June 17 when the five female pupils were catching mussels at theGang River in Thanh Ngoc commune, Thanh Chuong district, theytumbled down deep waters and exhausted. Duoc came just on time to savethe girls.

The 15-year-old boy’s courage and selflessness is a good example to teenagers nationwide.

Colonel Nguyen Dang Giap, Director General of Corporation 36 underthe Defence Ministry, showed that bold initiatives in management andoperation could help his company reap fruits.

Colonel Giap wasonce honoured in the ninth “Vietnam Glory” programme and his Corporation36 was awarded the “Labour Hero” title last year.

TheAuthority of Radio Frequency Management was praised for its contributionto securing spatial positions for the country’s Vinasat-1, Vinasat-2and VNRedsat-1 satellite, which have played an important part in thecountry’s socio-economic development and security-defence protection.

First initiated by Lao Dong newspaper in 2003, the “Vietnam Glory”programme has become a special cultural and political event toacknowledge and honour Labour heroes in the Renewal process, Heroes ofthe People’s Armed Forces, businesspeople and role-models in patrioticmovements.

Addressing the event, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doanpraised the awardees for showing a high degree of responsibility tocommunity and expressed her hope that these role models and theprogramme itself will generate greater impacts on society to encouragemore people to follow suit.-VNA
