Hanoi (VNA) - The National Election Council (NEC) convened its seventh session, its last plenar🦄y meeting, in Hanoi on July 15 under the chair of National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Ng🦩uyen Thi Kim Ngan, head of the council.

The function focused on discussing a draft report on the outcomes of the general election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 tenure, and a report on the verification of the eligibility of elected NA deputies.
Addressing the event, Ngan said the Council Office has made the draft report on the election results based on reports of relevant bodies. The official report will be concluded at this session on July 18 and then be presented at the first session of the 14th NA.
According to her, the general election, which took place on May 22, selected 496 deputies to the new legislature. However, during the verification of elected deputies’ qualifications, one has been under investigation. At this session, the council conducted a ballot to verify the eligibility of elected deputy Trinh Xuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hau Giang province in the 2011-2016 tenure. All members of the council present at the meeting agreed to not recognise his NA deputy status because of his looming violations. According to the Law on Election of National Assembly Deputies and People’s Council Members, the NEC will verify the eligibility of all newly-elected deputies and grant certificates recognising their status as deputies of the 14th NA.-VNA
