Hanoi (VNA)🅷 – Approximately 116,000 Vietnamese labourers were sent abroad to work last year.
The figure was released by the Department of Overseas Labour (DOLAB) under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) at a press briefing on January 28 in Hanoi.
In 2015, as many as 115,980 were employed overseas, surpassing the year’s target by 22 percent. The women accounted for 33.3 percent.
This year marks the second consecutive year that Vietnamese exported labourers exceeded 100,000.
Taiwan (China) is the top market for Vietnamese workers with 67,121 labourers, or 57.87 percent. It is followed by Japan with 27,010 workers, or 23.23 percent; and the Republic of Korea with 6,019 workers, 9 percent higher than the target.-VNA
While hopes are high that the coming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will bring opportunities to Vietnamese labour, the country's workforce still has a lot of work to do to take advantage of them.
Economic co-operation should be the key component in Vietnam's strategy for its integration into the ASEAN community, an official said at a conference in Hanoi on December 11.
