Nearly 1.5 million ethnic minority households get preferential loans
More than 1,473,000 ethnic minority households across the country have been benefiting from preferential credit programmes with total loans worth up to 40 trillion VND (over 1.76 billion USD).

Hanoi (VNA) - More than 1,473,000ethnic minority households across the country have been benefiting from preferentialcredit programmes with total loans worth up to 40 trillion VND (over 1.76billion USD), reported the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP).
The VBSP said it has been providing loanstotalling 166 trillion VND (7.31 billion USD) under 18 preferential credit programmesand other projects decided by the Government.
Preferentialcredits have benefited all ethnic minority households in extremely disadvantaged,remote and isolate communes, hamlets and villages. Some households haveborrowed capital from several programmes.
The loans have brought in practical results, contributing remarkably toeconomic development and improving living conditions of households and ethnicminority families in particular.
The VBSPhas focused on enhancing the efficiency of policy credits, particularly in thenorthwest, Central Highlands and southwest regions while working with localsocio-political organisations to carry out the job.
Minister, Chairman of the Government’sCommittee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Do Van Chien said the preferentialcredit programmes implemented by the bank have helped households, particularlyethnic minority families, stabilise their lives and reduce poverty sustainably.
However, Chien stressed the need to increase technology transfer and expandstable markets for products, while concentrated production zones should bedeveloped in ethnic minority-inhabited areas.-VNA
The southern province of Binh Phuoc plans to build some 700 households for local poor ethnic minority households in 2017, according to President of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Quang Toan.
Nearly 3,000 ethnic minority households have been resettled in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai thanks to the province’s efforts to complete more than 100 resettlement projects during 2013-2016.
Thirty six needy ethnic minority households in Bu Dop district, the southern province of Binh Phuoc, have been given breeding cows, helping them improve their livelihood.
