Nearly 5,000 flights delayed, cancelled in two months

Five domestic airlines reported nearly 5,000 delayed or cancelled flights, accounting for 17 percent of the total operated flights, in the first two months of the year.

Hanoi (VNA) - Five domestic airlines reported nearly 5,000 delayed orcancelled flights, accounting for 17 percent of the total operated flights, inthe first two months of the year.

The number increased by 4.2 percent from the previous month and posted a 0.9percent year-on-year rise.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV),Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific, Bamboo Airways and Vietnam Air ServicesCompany (VASCO) operated a total of 29,363 flights in the two-monthperiod, up 22.8 percent from the same period last year.

Of which, Jetstar Pacific had the highest rate of delayed or cancelled flightswith 838, accounting for 25.5 percent of its scheduled routes.

Vietjet took the second place with 2,677 delayed or cancelled flights,accounting for 21.5 percent of its total during the two-month period.

National carrier Vietnam Airlines reported 1,343 delayed or cancelled flights, accountingfor 11 percent of its total, while VASCO had 98 delayed or cancelled flights at9.2 percent.

The newly-launched airline Bamboo Airways reported 28 delayed or cancelledflights during the two months, accounting for 5.5 percent.

The CAAV said there were many reasons for the delays and cancellations,including late arrivals, flight management and operation and the equipment andservices at airports.

Other reasons included weather and technical issues, the agency said.-VNA
