New COVID-19 infections in Laos surge sharply

The Health Ministry of Laos on January 6 reported 1,083 new COVID-19 cases and two more fatalities in the last 24 hours, lifting the national tally of infections and death toll to 115,870 and 411, respectively.

Vientiane (VNA)– The Health Ministry of Laos on January 6 reported 1,083 new COVID-19 cases andtwo more fatalities in the last 24 hours, lifting the national tally of infectionsand death toll to 115,870 and411, respectively.

After four days of dropping to the three-digit level, the number of new cases in the SoutheastAsian nation increased to the four-digit figure on the day.

The capital city of Vientiane recorded the highest daily infectionsnationwide, with 347 community cases.  

In this context, the Lao government asked localities across the country to usehotels as COVID-19 treatment facilities, and organise mobile treatmentactivities for COVID-19 patients that have no symptoms.
