A reception was held in Hanoi on June 6 for a 22-member delegation from New Zealand’s Friendship Force of Christchurch.
Atthe event, Vice Chair of the Vietnam – US Friendship Association BuiThe Giang briefed the guests, who aim to improve New Zealand’sdiplomatic and cultural ties around the world, on Vietnam’ssocio-economic development.
He also presented the role of theVietnam Union of Friendship Organisations in enhancing mutualunderstanding and cooperation between the Vietnamese people and thosearound the world.
Also at the reception, he updated the guests onChina’s illegal placement of the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 inVietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.
LeoneIsabelle, head of the delegation, said their visit aims at learning moreabout Vietnam’s people, history and culture as well as localsocio-economic development, helping foster the friendship between thetwo peoples.
She added that as a member of the New Zealand club, she will provide her fellows with information about the East Sea situation.
Earlier, the delegation had meetings with officials of the Unions of Friendship Organisations of Hanoi and Thua Thien-Hue.
The club, a member of Friendship Force International, will be in Vietnam until June 16.-VNA
