Hanoi (VNA) –
Nine Myanmar policemen were killed in an attack on their station in Rakhine state. No organisations have claimed responsibility.

Myanmar police said the attack was launched in late afternoon of March 9 at the station in Yoetayok village, about one hour drive from Rakhine’s capital of Sittwe, leaving nine officers dead, another injured and one missing. The case is now under investigation.

Over the recent month, the self-claimed “Arakan Army” group has intensified their assaults on local security force and authorities in Rakhine, and Myanmar forces are increasing their raids in the area.

The latest attack took place as the Myanmar military has announced its suspension of every act against armed groups in five areas for four months to April 30 in a move to encourage racial armed groups to get involved in peace and cease-fire negotiations with the administration.

✃ So far, 10 of such groups have signed National Cease-fire Agreements with the government since its launch in October 2015, while seven other are still remaining outside the deal.-VNA
