Norway helps Thua Thien-Hue develop ethnic written languages
Norway’s FARO AS organisation has sponsored a pilot project to develop Co Tu, Pa Ko and Ta Oi written languages for students at primary schools in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) – Norway’sFARO AS organisation has sponsored a pilot project to develop Co Tu, Pa Ko andTa Oi written languages for students at primary schools in the central provinceof Thua Thien-Hue.
The 179,609 USD projectwill be carried out in A Luoi and Nam Dong mountainous districts.
In 2017-2022, it will compile documents to teachstudents from Co Tu, Pa Ko and Ta Oi ethnic groups to write scripts andorganise consultation meetings on teaching methods and evaluating pupils’ writingskills.
The project aims to contribute to themaintenance and development of written languages for Co Tu, Pa Ko and Ta Oiethnic groups, thus preserving and developing their cultural values. Earlier, the provincialDepartment of Education and Training, in collaboration with the VietnamAcademy of Social Sciences organised a course teaching Co Tu scripts for Co Tuteachers in Nam Dong and A Luoi districts.
Co Tu is one of the ethnic minority groups in Thua Thien-Hue, which plays animportant role in the local socio-economic development.
Co Tu language is used as their mother tongue. However,like many other ethnic minority groups, Co Tu people do not have a writtenlanguage, which hinders the preservation and development of their culturalvalues.-VNA
The central province of Thua Thien – Hue and the Vietnam Institute of Dictionary and Encyclopedia have successfully compiled a trilingual dictionary for ethnic people in the locality.
The northern mountainous province of Son La has deployed numerous activities to raise the awareness of the general election among local ethnic minority groups.
The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) held a conference on December 9 with leaders from 16 northern mountainous provinces on ways to improve the quality of VNA’s specialized pictorial newspaper on ethnic minorities and mountainous region.

The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.

At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach.
