The move also aimed to ensure safety for the vessel and avoid an oil spillduring the rescue, according to Ho Chi Minh City-based High Sea Transport JointStock Company, the representative of the vessel’s owner Cobalt Blue Shipping S.Aheadquartered in the Republic of Panama. The salvage is being carried out byJapan’s Nippon Salvage.
Five vessels participated in the rescue activities with vessel SAR 413 underVietnam’s Marine Search and Rescue Centre Region 3 tasked with supervising therescue activities and ensuring safety.
Chemroad Journey, flying a Cayman Islands flag, was stranded on June 10 some 52km to the south of the island as it was travelling from Singapore to China with27 crewmembers on board.
Thevessel, with its loading capacity of 33,500 tonnes, was carrying some 700 tonnesof fuel oil, when it tilted 10 degrees to the left.-VNA
A delegation of the National Committee for Search and Rescue arrived on Phu Quy Island, the south central province of Binh Thuan, on June 14 to direct the rescue of a foreign cargo vessel stranded near the island.
According to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC), this year’s campaign provided long-term aid for 3,785 individuals and organisations. Support included houses, clean water systems, school meal facilities, books, and livelihood assistance, with a total value of more than 118 billion VND.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
