Hanoi (VNA) – The Central Steering Committee for 2016-2020 NationalTarget Programmes (NTPs) on May 8 announced a list of success in fulfilling theNTPs in 2018.
The committee said that the NTP on buildingnew-style rural areas surpassed targets set by the National Assembly (NA) andthe Government. By the end of 2018, 43.02 percent of communes and 61 districtsacross the nation were recognised as new-style rural areas, laying the foundationto increase the ratio to 50 percent by 2019, completing the NA’s goal a yearahead of schedule.
Total capital mobilised for new-style ruralarea programme surged 50 percent from 2017. Of this, local budgets contributed 43.8trillion VND (1.88 billion USD), half of the amount for 2011-2015.
Last year also witnessed impressive resultsin poverty alleviation, with the poverty rate falling to 5.38 percent in 2018from 6.73 percent the previous year. This was the third consecutive year thepoverty reduction target was completed and exceeded the target assigned by theNA.
The fund for the poor also had abanner year, mobilising more than 863 billion VND.
For the first time, amulti-dimensional poverty report in Vietnam was developed and issued. It gavean overview of the multidimensional poverty reduction trends in Vietnam, aswell as recommendations for implementing the NTP on sustainable povertyreduction.-VNA
The number of communes recognised as new-style rural areas reached 4,144 as of the end of February, up 306 from the end of 2018, according to the central steering office of the new-style rural area building programme.
Vietnam will complete the five-year target of the National Target Programme on New-Style Rural Area Building by the end of the second quarter of 2019, with at least half of all communes completing all criteria of the programme.
