Outstanding young persons with disabilities commended
Thirty-eight outstanding young people with disabilities across the country were honoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 7 within the framework of the programme “Toa Sang Nghi Luc Viet” (Shining Vietnamese fortitude).

Hanoi (VNA) 🅘– Thirty-eight outstanding young people with disabilities across the country were honoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 7 within the framework of the programme “Toa Sang Nghi Luc Viet” (Shining Vietnamese fortitude).
The event was co-organised by the Vietnam Youth Federation (VYF) Central Committee, the National Committee for Persons with Disabilities, and TCP Vietnam Company.

The programme aims to seek and honour exemplary young people with disabilities who have overcome hardships and make active contributions to the community.
The 38 individuals were selected among 118 nominees from 68 units and organisations across the country.
Among them, the youngest are Le Thao Nguyen and Chuong Dinh Phuc, both university students born in 2005. They recorded remarkable academic achievements and participated in numerous national competitions for high school students. Additionally, they have played an active role in various volunteer activities launched by local chapters of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union as well as university student associations.
Many representatives demonstrate extraordinary determination to overcome challenges. Some even set up clubs to assist others in similar situations, such as Nguyen Thuy Chi, Tran Thanh Hieu, and Nguyen Ngoc Nhut.

At the ceremony, the outstanding young people with disabilities were awarded Certificates of Merit by the VYF Central Committee, along with saving books, each worth 10 million VND (393 USD).
Speaking at the event, Nguyen Kim Quy, Permanent Vice Chairman of the VYF Central Committee, said despite their different backgrounds, the 38 young people share a common trait.
It is the spirit of resilience that help them overcome physical and mental obstacles, affirm their self-worth, and make positive contributions to society, he explained.
Their relentless efforts serve as a source of inspiration for society and organisations such as the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, VYF, and the Vietnam Association of Youth with Disabilities to continue supporting them, according to Quy.
They have also encouraged their peers to move ahead, while contributing to national socio-economic development, he continued.

For the programme “Toa Sang Nghi Luc Viet”, Quy said its message is clear: no matter who you are or what challenges you face, believe in yourself and the future. He pledged that the VYF will always stand by them.
The programme was first first held in 2013, coinciding with the Vietnam visit by Nick Vujicic, an Australian man without arms and legs who has become a symbol of vitality. It has been held annually at the central level since 2021. Over the past years, the programme has commended a total of 237 young people with disabilities who have made significant contributions to their communities. Through the stories of these exemplary individuals, the programme has helped foster positive ideals within society.

Persons with disabilities in the southern province of Dong Nai are expected to gain better access to social services and find it easier to integrate into society under a project launched on June 6.
