Over 16.5 billion VND raised for disabled people

Hanoi (VNA) – More than 16.5 billionVND (727,980 USD) was raised at an art programme held in Hanoi on April 12 tosupport people with disabilities and orphans.

The “One heart – One world” programme wasorganised by the Association for the Support of Vietnamese Handicapped andOrphans (ASVHO) and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The annual event is to raise money foractivities to improve quality of life for disabled people and orphans.

Established in April 1992, the ASVHO aims toprotect the legitimate rights and interests of disabled people and orphans.

It has raised more than 2.5 trillion VND (110.3million USD) and received 268.2 billion VND (11.8 million USD) from the Statebudget to assist the disabled and poor with orthopedic surgery andrehabilitation, cataract surgery, vocational training, and wheelchairs andbicycles.

The association has supported some 9.8 millionhandicapped people and orphans across the country.-VNA
