Over 2 mln households in disadvantaged regions get preferential loans
More than 2 million households have received loans totaling 44.2 trillion VND (1.95 billion USD) from aprogramme designed to help business households in disadvantaged regions as of February 28, 2017.

Hanoi (VNA) – More than2 million households have received loans totaling 44.2 trillion VND (1.95billion USD) from aprogramme designed to help business households indisadvantaged regions as of February 28, 2017, according to the Vietnam Bankfor Social Policies (VBSP).
Currently, 640,000 householdsare borrowing 16.4trillion VND (722 million USD), of which the rate of overdue debtis only 0.35 percent.
According to statistics from thelocalities, the demand for capital from business households by 2020 will be atleast 6.6trillion VND (290.7 million USD).
The programme was launched onMarch 5, 2007, aiming to assist business households, including those running farms,with maximum assistance of 50 million VND (2,250 USD) at an interest rate ofnine percent per year.
Because commercial banks do nothave transaction offices in remote areas, the VBSP, with its nationwidenetwork, was entrusted to help those households access capital.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved policies to support development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in 2017-2020, which aim to reduce the poverty ratio in the areas by 3-4 percent.
The Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) has helped build more than 8.7 million clean water and sanitation facilities for family use in the past 12 years under its credit programme.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.

The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government.
