Hanoi (VNA)🃏 – The Prime Minister has recently agreed to advance 2.04 trillion VND (88.7 million USD) to help the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and localities implement projects to tackle droughts and saline intrusion.
The financial support will be extracted from unused resources garnered from selling state shares last year.
The PM asked the Ministry of Finance to collaborate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and report to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly with a plan for the use of the funds.
The MARD and relevant provincial People's Committees will supervise the disbursement of funds.-VNA
The Prime Minister has approved 284.5 billion VND (12.7 million USD) in aid to help 19 provinces across the country address the consequences of droughts and saline intrusion since early this year.
The Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) on March 18 decided to grant financial support worth 23 billion VND (over 1 million USD) for 16 localities hardest hit by droughts.
The authorities of Hanoi have decided to grant financial aid worth 19 billion VND to support the Central Highlands, south central and Mekong Delta localities hardest hit by droughts and saltwater.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organisations have provided 50.8 billion VND (around 2.3 million USD) in aid to provinces hit hard by drought, saltwater intrusion and mass fish deaths.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
