HCM City (VNA) - More than 22,000 young officers and soldiers of the armed forces in HoChi Minh City are participating as volunteers in the 13th Hanhquan xanh (Green Military Operations) Campaign between June 23 andAugust 4.
Attending a kick-offceremony held on June 23 in Tan Phu district, Vice Chairman of themunicipal People's Committee Ngo Minh Chau appreciated achievementsand efforts that campaign volunteers made over the last years.
Volunteers needto spread the spirit of the campaign to create moreopportunities for them to practice and improve their skills, hesaid.
During the campaign,the volunteers upgrade alleys, roads and irrigationsystems, offer free health exams and medicine to disadvantagedresidents, and build charity houses.
They also participatein activities to promote environmental protection, prevent and fight childabuse and law violations, build new-style rural areas and a “civilised urban”lifestyle, ensure social security, and protect the environment.
Training courseson fire-prevention equipment and firefighting skills,drowning prevention and rescue skills, and necessary self-defenseskills are also organised in localities.

The youth unions across Hanoi have drawn up detailed plans for a wide range of voluntary activities to support local communities and help ensure social security this year.
More than 147,000 students, teachers, soldiers and officers from Ho Chi Minh City joined a youth volunteering campaign during this summer, heard a ceremony to review the event on August 14.
The 12th Hanh Quan Xanh (Green Operation) volunteer campaign 2018 was launched on June 24 by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) of Ho Chi Minh City, with the participation of 800 members of the youth unions under the municipal armed forces and police.
Young volunteers across Vietnam are planning to fix and build about 4,300km of roads, carry out coastal clean-ups at 400 locations and plant at least 2.5 million trees during this summer.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
