Ottawa (VNA) – Overseas Vietnamese(OVs) in Canada have expressed their impression of the homeland’s achievementsover the last 48 years, since the Liberation of the South and the NationalReunification on April 30, 1975.

Talking to the Vietnam News Agency,Dinh Kim Nguyet, member of the executive council of the Canada - Vietnam Societyin Vancouver city, said despite staying far from Vietnam, she has always kept aclose watch on the homeland’s development.

She realised that the country has beendeveloping strongly over the past 48 years as seen in civilised and beautifulnew-style rural areas and modern high-rises in cities. The most important isthat Vietnamese people have been living in peace and independence.

Commenting on the Party and State’spolicies on OVs, Nguyet held that authorities and agencies at all levels havebeen implementing these policies well.

The expatriates in Canada are amongthose benefiting from Vietnam’s increasingly appropriate policies such as thoseon visa exemption, permanent residence cards, nationality regaining, andeducation on traditional culture for OVs.

Thanks to these policies, OVs nowhave further conditions to visit the homeland more frequently, she added.

Julie Nguyen, Director of the Canada- Vietnam Trade Council and member of the Canada - Vietnam Friendship Society, highlighted that over the last 48 years, the homeland has obtained anumber of achievements beyond expectations in all spheres such as economy, society, health care, education - training, science - technology, as well as diplomacyand military.

In terms of diplomacy, Nguyen notedshe is deeply impressed by Vietnam’s attainments since the start of the Doi moi(Renewal). The country is playing a growing role in the Association ofSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Asia, and the world. Particularly, relationsbetween Vietnam and Canada are becoming closer.

She also held that theimplementation of the Party and State’s policies on OVs has helped theexpatriates stay more cohesive with the homeland. More and more OVs, both oldand young, have returned to Vietnam to visit their families and seekbusiness and job opportunities.

That has proved the policies’effectiveness in attracting OVs’ resources for national development andstrengthening solidarity among the OV community, Nguyen added./.
