Partnership for green global goals discussed in Hanoi

Hanoi (VNA) – A workshop was held in Hanoi onMay 4 by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and theDanish Embassy as part of efforts to shape the new initiative “Partnering forthe Green Global Goals 2030”.

The event gathered policy makers, scientists,businesses and representatives of the public and private sectors in Vietnam andother countries. Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Ulla Tornaes alsoattended.

MoNRE Minister Tran Hong Ha said the GlobalGreen Growth Forum (3GF), launched in 2011, aims to gather government agencies,enterprises, investors and organisations around the world to act for green andsustainable growth. Based on this foundation, a new initiative will be launchedin September this year, focusing on realising green growth goals throughpublic-private partnerships.

As the latest 3GF member, Vietnam is attemptingto contribute to the forum and global development. The country will work withother 3GF members to promote the forum’s activities for global sustainabledevelopment, he noted.

Action plans are underway in the country torealise the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the ParisAgreement on climate change. Vietnam believes that cooperation between allpartners concerned will help countries adapt to global trends and resolvecommon challenges such as pollution, exhaustion of natural resources andclimate change.

International cooperation frameworks, including3GF, play a critical role in stepping up connectivity, seeking partners andpromoting cooperation opportunities to address those challenges, Ha said,adding that 3GF needs to reform, diversify and improve its activities to helpsettle pressing environmental and climate change issues.

At the workshop, participants reviewedcooperation within the 3GF framework and discussed member countries’ experience.They outlined 3GF’s cooperation priorities which match global trends, the 2030Agenda and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The function also looked into measures toincrease 3GF members’ engagement and connect 3GF with its partners to narrowdevelopment gaps and boost the capacity of developing member countries.-VNA

𒉰 Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

🌃 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
