Party chief pays tribute to late Party General Secretaries

 Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of theCommunist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong offered incense tocommemorate late Party General Secretaries Le Duan and Truong Chinh at theirprivate residences on February 14, on the occasion of the 88th founding anniversary of the CPV (February 3)  and the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

General Secretary Trong recalled great contributions of thelate leaders to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, andexpressed his deep gratitude to the predecessors, who helped lay the foundationfor the country.

He wished relatives of the late General Secretaries a newyear of good health, happiness and success, and encouraged them to carryforward their family traditions to contribute more to the nation.

Le Duan, real name Le VanNhuan, was born on April 7, 1907 in Bich La village, Trieu Dong commune, thecentral province of Quang Tri’s Trieu Phong district. He was the Party’s FirstSecretary and then the Party General Secretary from 1960 to 1986.

His leadership helped the Party successfullyguide the people to carry out revolutionary missions in both the North andSouth of the country, contributing to the country’s victory in the resistancewar against the US in 1975, as well as national construction and defence afterthat.

Truong Chinh, real name DangXuan Khu, was born on February 9, 1907 in Hanh Thien village, Xuan Hong commune,Xuan Truong district of the northern province of Nam Dinh.

He served as Party General Secretary three timesand a Politburo member for more than 20 years. 

It was him who realised the need for andinitiated the Doi Moi (Renewal) process. 

The late Party leader is also known as anoutstanding political theorist,  journalist, cultural researcher and poet,with many works on Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, as well as theParty’s view on cultural issues, which laid the theoretical foundation for thebuilding of a new Vietnamese culture. -VNA
