Hanoi (VNA) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has urged the Governments ofVietnam and Laos to work out measures to increase two-way trade and boostconnectivity in economy, transport infrastructure and energy.

At a reception for Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith in Hanoi on October 3,the Party leader called on the two governments to remove difficulties andobstacles so as to ensure the progress and quality of Vietnamese investmentprojects in Laos.

General Secretary Trong also stressed the need to improve the qualityand efficiency of bilateral cooperation in education-training and humanresource development.

Apart from sharing information and experience in the Party building work,State and socio-economic management and the implementation of Partyresolutions, Vietnam and Laos should step up collaboration in national defence,security and external affairs, he said.

The General Secretary spoke highly of PM Sisoulith’s visit to Vietnam, which takesplace at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 55th foundinganniversary of diplomatic ties and 40 years of the signing of the Vietnam-LaosTreaty of Amity and Cooperation.

The Party chief affirmed Vietnam’s strong and comprehensive support for the causeof reform, national defence and construction in Laos, expressing his belief  that under the leadership of the Lao People’sRevolutionary Party, the management of the Government and the supervision ofthe National Assembly, the Lao people will reap greater achievements in thereform process.

For his part, PMSisoulith asserted that the Lao Government will coordinate closely with itsVietnamese counterpart to instruct relevant ministries, agencies and localitiesto effectively implement agreements reached by senior leaders of the twoParties and countries, as well as deals signed at the 39th meetingof the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, and carefully prepare for the40th meeting of the committee.

The same day, PM Sisoulith and his entourage visited former Party GeneralSecretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh. They noted with joy the developmentof the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, bringingpractical benefits to their people and significantly contributing to nationalconstruction and defence in each country.

The two sides described the special relationship as an invaluable asset of thetwo Parties and nations, and a momentum for national construction and defencein each country, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and developmentin the region and the world at large.

The relationship should be consolidated by the Parties, States and people ofthe two countries and handed down to young generations, they said.-VNA
