Party leader attends celebration of 80th anniversary of VPA's politics general department

Hanoi (VNA) – The General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) organised a ceremony in Hanoi on December 12 to celebrate its 80th founding anniversary (December 22, 1944-2024), with Party General Secretary To Lam, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission, attending.

The event also celebrated the department’s receiption of the First-Class Independence Order.

Prominent among the delegates were Politburo members: President Luong Cuong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Standing Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and Chairman of the Committee’s Inspection Commission Tran Cam Tu, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, and Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a bouquet to the event.

The event drew leaders and former leaders of the Ministry of National Defence, the General Department of Politics, revolutionary veterans, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, and representatives of localities.

Sen. Lieut. Gen Thongloi Silivong, member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP)’s Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defence, and Chairman of the Lao People’s Army (LPA)’s General Department of Politics, as well as representatives from military attaché offices of countries in Vietnam also attended the celebration.

Opening the event, Sen. Lieut. Gen Trinh Van Quyet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission and Chairman of the VPA’s General Department of Politics, reviewed major milestones in the growth process of the general department since it was established on December 22, 1944 under the direction of President Ho Chi Minh.

He highlighted the importance of political work within the military and the role of the general department in designing and perfecting the Party's leadership mechanisms over the military, and ensuring the Party’s absolute and direct leadership in all aspects.

Quyet also hailed the exemplary qualities of generations of military officers in general and those in charge of political affairs within the VPA, who have been instrumental in fostering the general department’s proud legacy of loyalty, dedication, creativity, solidarity, and professionalism.

The officer held that the 80th anniversary is another important milestone, encouraging the general department to further strengthen determination, together with the whole Party, military and people, to enter a new era – the era of the nation’s rise.
