Hanoi (VNA) – TheCentral Military Commission and the Defence Ministry held a Political-Military Conferencefor the whole army in Hanoion December 13 to review the military performance and role model movement in2016 and launch tasks for 2017.
Addressing the event, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam andSecretary of the Central Military Commission Nguyen Phu Trong lauded theCentral Military Commission and Defence Ministry’s operation and completion ofall assigned tasks over the past year.
He clarified that 2017 will be the second year of conductingthe resolutions of the 12th Party Congress’ and the 10th Military PartyOrganisation Congress, urging the whole army to focus on making goodperformance in five key areas, including better forecast and strategicconsultations of possible circumstances to avoid unexpected situation.
He stressed the need to continue strengthening people-baseddefence, building armed forces of purity and comprehensive strength, as well asthe combination of defence-security and economic development in socio-economicplans, strategies and policies.
He also asked for stronger connection betweendefence-security and external relations expansion in line with the Party andState orientations.
The Party leader also underlined the importance of buildingstrong and uncorrupted Party organisation, preventing self-evolution andself-transformation among Party members.
Lieut. Gen. Deputy Minister of Defence Phan Van Giang delivered a report on the2016 military and defence work and tasks for the next year.
He said along with effective advices to the Party, Government and localities ondefence matters, the military has been the major forces in safeguarding thecountry’s sovereignty territorial integrity and security, fixing damages causedby natural disasters, and conducting search and rescue operations and mineclearance.
The whole army has stayed firm in keeping absolute trust inthe Party’s leadership, while standing ready for all tasks, he added.
Giang underscored that in 2017, the army should continueimplementing the Central Military Commission’s Resolution 756 on improvingtraining quality, strengthening the building of regular order and discipline,and realising the education and training development strategy in armed forcesin the 2016-2020 period.
It is crucial to make comprehensive reform and basic changein the quality and effectiveness of education, training and science research inmilitary schools, and pay more attention to the monitor of the implementationof political tasks and party building, he said.-VNA
