Hanoi (VNA)🗹 - Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung chaired talks with a delegation from the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) led by General Secretary Paulo Raimundo in Hanoi on August 14.

Trung expressed thanks to Paulo Raimundo and other PCP leaders for their heartfelt condolence letters on the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and congratulatory messages to President To Lam on his election as the new Party chief of Vietnam. These gestures, he noted, are testament to the fraternity and comradeship as well as strong solidarity between the two Parties. Briefing the Portuguese delegation about the CPV's renewal policy, Trung highlighted Vietnam's remarkable achievements and lessons learned over the past nearly four decades. He underlined the country's foreign policy, which attaches importance to relationships with communist parties and traditional friends.
Looking ahead, he discussed long-term goals and ongoing efforts to realise the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, as well as preparations for the 14th National Party Congress. Raimundo, visiting Vietnam for the first time, marveled at the socio-economic accomplishments of the Vietnamese people under the CPV's leadership. He praised the significance of Vietnam's renewal cause and socialism-building efforts, describing them as a shared victory of and a great source of inspiration for the PCP and progressive forces worldwide fighting for peace, democracy, and socialism.
In an increasingly complex global landscape, both sides exchanged updates on their respective parties and countries, recent developments in Vietnam-Portugal relations, and global and regional issues of mutual concern. They reached a consensus on orientations and measures to fortify Party-to-Party relations and friendship and cooperation between the two countries' States and people, toward celebrating the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties next year. Prior to the talks, the Portuguese delegation paid their respects to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum. They will continue their working agenda in Vietnam until August 17./.
