Spokesperson of the Philippine President Salvador Panelo said on September 20 that President Rodrigo Duterte has named Lieutenant General Noel Clement as new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Hanoi (VNA) – Spokespersonof the Philippine President Salvador Panelo said on September 20 that PresidentRodrigo Duterte has named Lieutenant General Noel Clement as new Chief of Staffof the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Clement, 55, current Commanderof the AFP Central Command, will replace General Benjamin Madrigal, who willretire on September 21 as he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56.

Clement will officiallyassume the post on September 24.

As a memberof the Philippine Military Academy's Sandiwa Class of 1985, Clement served aschief of the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division before leadingthe Central Command, which covers parts of Soccskargen and Davao region,hometown of President Duterte./.
