President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte on November 15 filed to compete for a seat at the Senate elections next year, seeking a way to remain in politics following the end of his tenure.

Hanoi (VNA) – Presidentof the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte on November 15 filed to compete for a seat at the Senateelections next year, seeking a way to remain in politics following the end ofhis tenure.

According to the French news agency AFP, Duterte submitted his candidacy at theCommission on Elections office, minutes before the deadline to join the race.

Duterte, who is constitutionallybarred from seeking a second six-year term, was elected as President in ageneral election in 2016.

He  previously said he would run for the country'ssecond-highest office, before changing his mind and announcing plans last monthto retire from politics.

🦩 He made a similardeclaration in September 2015, saying he "will retire from public life forgood", only to announce a presidential bid two months later./.
