Hanoi (VNA) – The death toll from typhoonTembin in the southern Philippines has climbed to 240, which is likely toincrease as more than 100 others are still missing.
Local officials on December 25 revealed that thenumber of confirmed deaths from Tembin on Mindanao’s Zamboanga peninsula hadrisen to 78, while the death toll in Lanao del Sur province went up to 27. Thestorm killed 135 others in the northern part of Mindanao island.
Rescuers are still looking for 107 people in thethree areas.
Around 13,000 households in Mindanao with atleast 52,000 people have to welcome Christmas Day in evacuation camps.
Tembin hit Mindanao, the second biggest islandof the Philippines, on December 22, causing floods and landslides and isolatinga remote village. It made landfall one week after storm Kai Takleft dozens of people dead and over 20 unaccounted for in the centralPhilippines.
