Philippines builds largest-ever solar farm

The Philippines has started building its largest single-site solar and battery energy storage facility, the Department of Energy announced on November 21.

Hanoi (VNA) –𝓀 The Philippines has started building its largest single-site solar and battery energy storage facility, the Department of Energy announced on November 21.

The Meralco Terra solar project covers 3,500 ha, spanning the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Bulacan in the North of Manila.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate over 5 billion kWh of electricity annually, substantially contributing to the grid in Luzon island, addressing the growing demand for clean and sustainable energy, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, the department said. Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla stressed that this great investment in solar and energy storage technology is a crucial step towards achieving a goal of increasing the share of renewables in the energy system, reducing carbon footprint, and addressing electricity demand in the main Luzon Island. The project will enhance the Southeast Asian nation's energy security and resilience, contributing to economic development by creating jobs and promoting sustainable growth, Lotilla said./.
