Hanoi (VNA) - Philippine President Rodrigo Dutertesaid on June 3 that he will discuss defense, security and trade issues withPresident of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in during his visit to the country nextweek.

In a speech before departing for Seoul, Duterte saiddiscussion between him and his Korean counterpart will cover various issues,including ways to further improve bilateral ties in trade, defense and securitycooperation, investments in infrastructure, information, and information andcommunications technology (ICT), and tourism.

He said he will highlight the need for bilateral work tohelp achieve greater security by addressing conventional and emerging threatsto stability in the two nations.

Duterte is also scheduled to meet with Korean businessleaders to encourage them to become reliable partners, contributing topromoting economic growth of the Philippines.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said during thevisit, four agreements will be signed between the sides, including memoranda ofunderstanding (MOUs) on transportation, science and technology, trade andeconomic cooperation.

Last year, about 1.6 million RoK people visited thePhilippines and 450,000 Filipinos travelled to the RoK. There are about 68,000Filipinos living and studying in the RoK-VNA
