Phu Quoc welcomes over 1.5 million visitors in Q1

Phu Quoc island city in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors in the first quarter of 2023, a rise of 43.4% year on year, fulfilling 25.9% of its yearly target.

Kien Giang(VNA) – Phu Quoc island city in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giangwelcomed more than 1.5 million visitors in the first quarter of 2023, a rise of43.4% year on year, fulfilling 25.9% of its yearly target.

In the period, the cityearned over 4.5 trillion VND (119.44 million USD) from tourism activities, up 286.5% over the same period last year, equivalent to 39.4% of the yearly plan.

The city attributedthe result to effective measures to speed up tourism recovery anddevelopment and tourism promotion activities.

Phu Quoc has alsoattracted many big tourism investors such as Vingroup, Sungroup, CEO, BIM. Todate, it is hosting 286 tourism projects worth more than 375 trillion VND (15.95 billion USD), of which 47 has been operational and 78 areunderway.

The popular touristdestination is preparing to welcome visitors during the five day holidays onthe occasion of the National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1).The majority of hotels in the island have been fully booked.

Tran Quoc Khanh,Chairman of the Kien Giang Tourism Association, said that the association held afarmtrip from March 17-19 for more than 40 travel firms from Hanoi to seekpartnership opportunities with local peers.

Phu Quoc is known asthe ‘pearl island,' endowed with clear blue water beaches such as Bai Sao andBai Dai, and plenty of local specialties including seafood, pepper and pearls,among others.

It also has well-knowndestinations including the busy Duong Dong town, Ham Ninh and Ganh Dau fishingvillages, and other attractive tourist points.

Last year, it wasselected one of 25 best islands in the world by readers of US magazine TravelLeisure.

The biggest island of Vietnam was also votedby readers of Condé Nast Traveler at the sixth place in the top 10 resortislands in Asia for 2022./.
