Phu Tho (VNA) – The northern province of Phu Tho and Laos’northwestern province Luang Namtha have shared sound cooperation throughvarious partnerships over the years.
Since the two provinces set up twin relations in November 23, 1979, PhuTho, formerly called Vinh Phu, has provided Luang Namtha with non-refundableassistance to build many public works, including a radio system, a water supplysystem, the Vinh Phu-Luang Namtha friendship hospital, and some publicbuildings and schools.
Phu Tho has also helped Luang Namtha train 95 officials and workers,while leaders of the two provinces have regularly shared information.
Since 1997, the two sides have promoted ties through exchanges of visitsand the signing of cooperation deals in various fields.
In December 2015, the two provinces signed a memorandum of understandingon development cooperation in 2016-2020. They have also expanded collaborationamong organisations like trade unions and women’s unions.
Phu Tho has created favourable conditions for Lao enterprises to invest inthe province, thus promoting trade and socio-economic development in bothlocalities.
Along with popularising the culture and traditions of each province inthe other, the two sides have also educated locals of both sides on the specialrelationship between Vietnam and Laos.
Recently, the military commands of both provinces formed twin relations.
The two sides aim to continue boosting their friendship throughcooperation among departments and agencies of both sides and backingenterprises of both localities.-VNA
