Phuket, Phang-nga remember 10th anniversary of tsunami

The Phuketprovincial administrative organisation and the Disaster Prevention andMitigation Center Region 18 hosted a lecture attended by communityleaders, people who live or work in areas with tsunami risk, and thosewith duties related to disaster response. The lecture is aimed atcreating disaster preparedness as well as boosting confidence ondisaster-handling capacity.

Phuket Province's memorial service on the 10th anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami took place at Loma Park on Patong Beach.

PrimeMinister Prayut Chan-o-cha was slated to go to Phang-nga province topreside over another memorial service for those who perished in thedisaster ten years ago.

The service was held in Khuekkhaksub-district, Takua Pa district, Phang-nga. Of the six provinces hit bythe tsunami, Phang-nga took the heaviest toll of casualties with 4,225dead, 5,597 injured, and 1,655 missing.-VNA/NNT
