PM calls for more JICA support in national development

Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 11 expressed his hopethat the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will further itscooperation with and support Vietnam in national development.

At a receptionfor JICA President Kitaoka Shinichi, the PM called upon Japan to help Vietnamwith the construction of the Vientiane-Hanoi expressway running through the ThanhThuy border gate in the north-central province of Nghe An.

Hailing thesignificant contribution of Japanese official development assistance (ODA) toVietnam’s socio-economic development, poverty reduction, and infrastructure constructionover the years, he said the capital has been used publicly, transparently, andeffectively.

Vietnamfacilitates Japanese investment in the country, he said, and stands ready towelcome shifting Japanese investment.

Phuc highlightedthe fruitful development of the bilateral relationship across spheres, withenhanced exchanges and political trust between leaders of the two countries.

The PM said hebelieves that with their potential, Vietnam and Japan will further advancetheir relationship after COVID-19, noting that bilateral cooperation hassignificantly contributed to peace and stability in Asia.

For his part,Shinichi lauded the Vietnamese Government’s efforts in containing the COVID-19pandemic, saying Vietnam is the first country where JICA has dispatchedvolunteers to work.

He said ASEANmember countries and Japan share a lot of similarities, especially in naturaldisaster response. It is therefore necessary to strengthen regional cooperationin this regard.

The two havejoined hands in personnel training, and JICA hopes to contribute more in this regard,he said./.
