Hanoi (VNA) – The outcomes ofconfidence votes prompt the government to work better and raise the sense ofresponsibility towards the people and the National Assembly, Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc said.
At the monthly government meeting in Hanoi onNovember 3, the PM acknowledged efforts of ministers and heads of sectors tomeet the expectations of the NA, voters and the public during the question andanswer session at the 14th legislature’s sixth session.
Reviewing the ten-month and Octobersocio-economic performance, he said amid the complicated developments in theworld, many countries and international organisations acknowledge Vietnam’sstature, achievements and development potentials, giving Vietnam chances toseek and expand greater markets.
In the past ten months, the macro-economyremained stable with the consumer price index growth at 3.6 percent. Exportvalue was equivalent to the 2017 total with nearly 200 billion USD, up over 14percent. Trade surplus reached 6.4 billion USD.
There were about 110,000 newly-registeredbusinesses nationwide, which brought the country closer to the goal of having130,000 new firms this year, while total goods retail revenue increased by 11.4percent. The number of foreign tourist arrivals grew by 22.4 percent.
Pointing to outstanding shortcomings of theeconomy, PM Phuc said the country had dropped in the ranking of businessenvironment. He asked ministries and agencies to improve readiness for the fourthindustrial revolution by taking specific measures, otherwise the country willlag behind.
Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City andmajor cities should take more drastic actions to develop business andproduction, he said.
The leader also expressed concern about socialorder and safety in some localities, and instructed drastic measures to betaken to fight crime.
Just before the meeting, the PM granted thePresident’s decision on the appointment of Minister of Information and Communicationsto Nguyen Manh Hung.
Earlier on July 25, the PM signed DecisionNo.900/QD-TTg on assigning the position of Minister of Information andCommunications to Maj. Gen Nguyen Manh Hung, member of the Party CentralCommittee, President and Chairman of the military-run telecom providerViettel.-VNA
The People’s Council of Ho Chi Minh City announced the results of vote of confidence for officials holding 18 positions elected by the council, at the end of the council’s 16th session on December 10.
Confidence vote results on 57 holders of leading positions of the Party Committee of the National Assembly (NA) were announced on December 25, with NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu earning the highest number of high-confidence votes with 93.16 percent.
The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee will cast a vote of confidence on members of its Politburo and Secretariat at its ninth session slated for this December.
The 14th National Assembly conducted a vote of confidence on 48 officials holding positions elected and approved by the legislature during its sixth session in Hanoi on October 25.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
