PM hosts US trade representative, agriculture secretary

Washington DC (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc met US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Secretary of AgricultureSonny Perdue in Washington DC on May 30 (local time).
The PM lauded the development of cooperation ineconomics, trade and investment between the two countries in recent years,emphasising this as a driving force in bilateral relations, contributing togrowth and job generation.
He affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance toeconomic-trade-investment collaboration with the US and wishes to boostbilateral economic ties for mutual benefits.
Vietnam will create more favourable conditionsfor the US to bring products to the market while improving the business andinvestment environment, he said.
The US guests agreed that the two countries havecomplementary economies, adding that the US treasures economic-trade ties withVietnam and welcomes the Southeast Asian nation to continue pursuing economicreforms and international integration, enabling US firms to invest and dobusiness.
The US side hailed the Vietnamese Government foreasing some issues of US concern and its will to support US growth andemployment targets.
Both nations should approve the Trade andInvestment Framework Agreement (TIFA) mechanism to further discuss addressingdifficulties in trade.
Speaking at a meetingwith leading enterprises of the US and at the banquet jointly held by the USChamber of Commerce and the US-ASEAN Business Council, Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc applauded US firms’ investment in Vietnam.
He asserted Vietnam’s determination to promote renovation and internationalintegration, and implement measures in line with fair trade rules, stressingthat Vietnam considers US enterprises’ success as its success.
US firms affirmedtheir support for strengthened relations between the two countries, saying thatthe Vietnamese Government’s policies created a fair environment for foreignenterprises, including those from the US.
They said they will support Vietnam in holding APEC 2017.
The same day, PM Phuc received theWorld Bank’s Regional Vice President for the East Asia and Pacific, Victoria Kwakwa , during which he asked the bankto continue supporting Vietnam in both international support and economic andfinancial policy consultation.
Kwakwa expressed her admiration for Vietnam’s development as well as thecountry’s achievements in poverty reduction.
She said the World Bank’s Boards of Directors supports Vietnam’s measures topromote economic restructuring and growth expansion, affirming that the bankwill continue to make it easy for the Vietnam Government to achieve strongerdevelopment.-VNA
