PM meets head of Thailand’s Privy Council, top legislator

Bangkok (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 18 had meetings with Presidentof Thailand’s Privy Council Prem Tinsulanonda and President of Thailand’sNational Legislative Assembly Pornpetch Wichitcholchai as part of his ongoingvisit to Thailand.

At the meeting with Presidentof Thailand’s Privy Council Prem Tinsulanonda, PM Phuc hailed the attention ofthe Thai Royal Family to the development of friendship and all-round cooperationwith Vietnam over the past years, and thanked the Royal Family in supportingthe Vietnamese community in the country.

Prem Tinsulanonda saidthat the Thai Royal Family and Government always treasure and prioritise tieswith Vietnam, considering Vietnam as an important partner in the region, notingthat Vietnam is the only strategic partner of Thailand in ASEAN.

He expressed delight atthe signing of many important cooperation agreements on the occasion of PMPhuc’s visit, saying he believes the visit will help further deepen thestrategic partnership between the two countries.

He also noted that theVietnamese community has made positive contributions to the development ofThailand as well as the growth of partnership between the two countries.

At the meeting with Presidentof the Thai National Legislative Assembly Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, PM Phuccongratulated Thailand on the new Constitution, adding that he believesThailand will successfully organise the upcoming election.

He suggested thatlegislative bodies of both sides maintain the exchange of delegations toincrease information sharing and mutual understanding, while coordinating closelyin building the ASEAN Community through different channels, including the ASEANInter-Parliamentary Assembly.

The PM also proposed thatthe Thai side open its door wider for Vietnamese goods and encourage Thaiinvestors to invest more in Vietnam.

For his part,Pornpetch Wichitcholchai held that the Vietnamese Government leader’s visit willcreate new momentum for the development of the strategic partnership betweenthe two countries, especially in economy, trade and investment.

He agreed to further beefup affiliation between the two legislative bodies in the future throughpromoting the role of the two countries’ friendship parliamentarian groups.-VNA
