Budapest, (VNA)🙈 – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinhmet with staff members of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives from theVietnamese community in Hungary in Budapest on January 19, as part of his officialvisit to the European country.
The Vietnamese community in Hungary numbers about 6,000, mostof whom live in Budapest and adjacent areas, according to Ambassador Nguyen ThiBich Thao. She said the community is united and organises many activities topreserve the national cultural characteristics and promote Vietnam’s image inthe host society. Addressing the meeting, PM Chinh mentioned the Politburo’sResolution 36 on overseas Vietnamese affairs which emphasizes that the overseasVietnamese are an integral part of the community of ethnic groups of Vietnam. The Government and National Assembly took many actions in implementing theresolution last year, including addressing issues related to ID cards, visa andproperty ownership of overseas Vietnamese, he said, pledging more will be doneto ensure that the overseasVietnamese are an integral part of the Vietnamese nation. He commended the Vietnamese community inHungary for their unity and contributions to the host country while keeping thenational cultural identity and promoting Vietnam, adding that during thisvisit, he has repeatedly asked the Hungarian government to continuefacilitating the integration of the Vietnamese community, including therecognition of the community as an ethnic minority group of Hungary. The Government leader said Vietnam is researching policies toattract overseas talents and called on Vietnamese scholars and researchers in theworld and Hungary in particular to join in scientific-technological research andinnovation in Vietnam as well as in the building of an international financialcentre in Ho Chi Minh City. He requested that the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary to takebetter care of the Vietnamese community, maintain close connection with thecommunity and support their activities while pushing for the recognition of Vietnamesein Hungary as an ethnic minority group. Representativesfrom the community expressed their wish for continued support from theVietnamese State in connecting them with the country and Vietnamese communitiesin other countries, promoting the Vietnamese culture, including the teaching ofVietnamese, and facilitating their involvement in projects in Vietnam./.
The Prime Minister recently approved a plan on bringing into play resources of overseas Vietnamese (OVs) to serve national development in the new context.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang has called on Vietnamese representative offices in foreign countries to mobilise the Overseas Vietnamese (OV) resources to develop the nation.
Overseas Vietnamese (OV) affairs in 2024 will focus on two orientations of strengthening the great solidarity of the Vietnamese community abroad and promoting resources from the community, which will be implemented with seven major solutions, stated Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Manh Dong at a press conference in Hanoi on January 11.
